PLACES WE HART |  SONOMA & NAPA VALLEY VINEYARDS

Where Wine Meets Chill...

Last July, I left bustling LA for a birthday weekend in Wine Country. I researched vineyards, packed my hiking boots and sundresses and got ready to vibe and imbibe.

What was supposed to be a long weekend turned into nearly a year-long stay in Sonoma Valley, where I meandered through the best vineyards and restaurants in the Bay Area. So today, I'm diving into the laid-back paradise that is Sonoma Valley. Think of it as Napa's cool cousin – equally classy, but with a vibe that's more jeans and sneakers than suits and ties.

First off, Sonoma and Napa Valley have the perfect climate for grape growing and it's seeds were frequently sewn by Italian immigrants (who truly know a thing or two about making fabulous wine). The soil throughout the valleys are often sandy and dry - I was shocked to learn that soft, lush, dense soil makes for lazy grapes. A harsher climate and lack of water makes even better wine.

Sonoma's warm and coastal climate lends itself to a wide variety of wines - you've got your classic Chardonnays and Cabernets, and funky varietals like Grenache Blanc and Tempranillo. And the best part? You don't need a fancy title to appreciate it. Whether you're a certified sommelier or just someone who knows what they like, there's a glass with your name on it in Sonoma.

Here's a list of some of my favorites wineries in Sonoma and Napa:
1. Sixteen 600 Winery
2. Abbot's Passage
3. Frog's Leap (Napa)
4. Benziger Winery
5. Caymus Vineyards (Napa)

In Sonoma, it's all about keeping it chill. Tasting rooms here are more like your favorite neighborhood hangout than stuffy wine temples. Expect friendly faces, laid-back tunes, and maybe even a furry friend or two (because who doesn't love a winery dog?).

It's classy yet casual, sophisticated yet laid-back, and always ready to welcome you with a glass of something delicious. If you need more recommendations, let's connect over a glass of something yummy. Cheers! 🍷✨
